GDC consultation on draft strategy for 2023-25

The General Dental Council (GDC) is currently consulting on our draft strategy for 2023-25. This is your chance to help shape how we approach our role as your professional regulator at a time of considerable uncertainty for Scottish and UK dentistry.

Our priority is to keep building effective prevention strategies and operating a proportionate system for resolving concerns. We aim to further shift the balance from enforcement to prevention. We plan to embed new principles of professionalism, giving professionals the space to exercise their judgement, and to focus our investigations on serious issues that provoke concerns for public safety or confidence.

Legislative change to the framework within which we must operate will help us to become more effective and proportionate but this is still some way off. And there are other important issues for dentistry, including widening health inequalities and access to NHS dental services. Some issues are beyond our remit, but we can make an important contribution:

  • by sharing intelligence and insights
  • engaging stakeholders
  • working with the right parts of the sector to address risks

We want to ensure that the views of Scottish dental professionals and other Scottish stakeholders are fully represented in the consultation. The deadline for responses is Tuesday 6 September 2022. Please respond using the online form. We have also provided a list of consultation questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
