Amendment 145 to the Statement of Dental Remuneration takes effect from 13th July 2020.

Statement of Dental Remuneration: Amendment No. 139

This letter advises NHS Boards and Practitioner Services of the publication of an amendment to the Statement of Dental Remuneration (SDR), Amendment No 139.
It also advises of the maximum patient charge for a single course of NHS dental treatment.

Phasing down of dental amalgam and Amendment no. 138 to the SDR

This letter advises NHS Boards and Practitioner Services of the new arrangements relating to the phasing down of dental amalgam. This includes guidance regarding alternatives to dental amalgam, when they should be used and the exceptions to this.

This letter also advises of Amendment No. 138 to the Statement of Dental Remuneration (SDR), which takes effect from 1 July 2018.

National Smile Month

National Smile Month is the UK’s largest and longest-running oral health campaign. Together, with thousands of individuals and organisations, National Smile Month promotes three key messages, all of which go a long way in helping us develop and maintain a healthy mouth. They are:

  • Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste
  • Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks
  • Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.

Organised by oral health charity, the British Dental Health Foundation, the campaign hopes to raise awareness of important health issues, and make a positive difference to the oral health of millions of people throughout the UK.

New Scottish Dental Health Service: Update

This letter from the Chief Dental Officer is for the attention of all dental professionals in Scotland.

The letter includes a joint statement from the Scottish Health and Social Care Directorates and the British Dental Association on the progress made to date.

British Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

The British Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (BSOMP) exists to promote training, education and standards in Head & Neck Pathology. The society evolved from an informal gathering known as the Oral Pathology Club. The inaugural meeting of which was held in Birmingham in September 1967 when 33 members met under the Chairmanship of Professor John Boyes.

British Endodontic Society

The British Endodontic Society  (BES) was was formed in 1963 to promote the interchange of ideas on all aspects of pulp and root canal treatment especially in general dental practice. The object of the BES is to promote and advance endodontology to ensure that the dental and general health of the nation is both maintained and improved, and that life long education is encouraged and facilitated.

British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry

The British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry  (BASCD) is the UK’s professional association for the science, philosophy and practice of promoting the oral health of populations and groups in society. The British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry was founded in 1973 by leading dental professionals concerned with the needs of populations and groups in society, with a specific emphasis on preventing and controlling oral diseases and conditions.

British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry

The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry mission statement is:-
