Edinburgh Dental Institute

The Edinburgh Dental Institute  (EDI) was established in 1999 to develop education opportunities for dental postgraduates and the dental team.  EDI is a part of the School of Clinical Science and Community Health of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine of the University of Edinburgh. The activities of EDI are as a result of strong cooperation and collaboration between the University of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian, NHS Education for Scotland and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Glasgow Dental School

Glasgow Dental Hospital and School was established in 1879 . It is teh second largest dental school in the UK . It delivers a modern, integrated Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme over five years to an undergraduate population of approximately 400 students. it also provides postgraduate research opportunities and, in addition, taught postgraduate programmes in a range of subjects.

Dundee Dental School

The School of dentistry in Dundee traces its roots back to 1909 with the formation of the Dundee Dental Club to provide treatment for the local poor.  Since it’s founding in 1916 and the first dental students enrolling two years later, the Dundee School of Dentistry has changed beyond all recognition.

Aberdeen Dental School

The  dental course at Aberdeen is aimed at graduates. The curriculum is based around a series of themes that are integrated both horizontally and vertically throughout the programme and have been designed to meet the requirements of the General Dental Council as outlined in “Preparing for Practice”.

Dentistry in the New Millennium

This report  includes a summary and  recommendations of a working group  looking into the education and training of the professionals complimentary to dentistry in Scotland.

The main aim of this report is to develop an organisational structure capable of:-

  • maintaining an increased production of Professionals Complementary to Dentistry.
  • maintaining a higher standard of education and training for all Professionals Complementary to Dentistry.

and thereby

  • increasing the potential for Professionals Complementary to Dentistry to contribute to improving oral health and the quality of dental services in Scotland.

NHS Education Scotland (NES) – Dentistry

NHS Education Scotland (NES)  is  a special health board responsible for supporting NHS services in Scotland by developing and delivering education and training for those who work in NHSScotland.

NES – Dentistry are responsible for the commissioning and delivery of a wide range of dental education and training in Scotland for all members of the dental team.  They are also committed to educational research and development.
