SDCEP – ‘Drug Prescribing for Dentistry’ Update

SDCEP’s ‘Drug Prescribing For Dentistry’ 3rd Edition, published in January 2016, was based on edition 70 of the ‘British National Formulary’ (BNF 70) and the 2015-16 edition of the ‘BNF for Children’ (BNFC).
The guidance is periodically amended to include subsequent changes to the BNF and BNFC . SDCEP has released an update to the 3rd Edition of its ‘Drug Prescribing For Dentistry’ guidance, which was published in January 2016. The update includes information on amendments to the latest edition of the British National Formulary (BNF 73) which was published in March 2017, including changes to the recommended adult dose of metronidazole. The circumstances in which it is appropriate to prescribe metronidazole are described within the ‘Drug Prescribing For Dentistry’ guidance. These remain unchanged and local measures should be used to manage patients in the first instance.
